Assignment 2: Complex Source Evaluation
Description
For your second assignment, we’ll be performing complex source evaluations in order to create an annotated bibliography for our research projects later on for Unit 3. We will need to compose a summary, evaluation, and purpose of use for 6 sources that could, ideally, be used in our research
For the summary, discuss the source, it’s content, and where it comes from. If the author or publication is relevant (and it should be), discuss why. If the source is important because of the timing of its publication, discuss why. Your audience should have a complete understanding of the source before you move on to the evaluation.
For the evaluation, tell us the strengths and weaknesses of the source as it applies to a research project. Does this information stand on its own as a valid argumentative point? Does it allow you to enter the conversation it discusses in your research? How well does the writer (or writers) present the argument? Would this piece, on its own, stand up to a strong critical evaluation from an academic standpoint?
Finally, for the purpose of use, tell us why and how you foresee this source entering the essay. How will this source become a building block for your argument? You need to begin each source discussion with an MLA formatted bibliography entry. Your overall essay needs to be at leas 850 words. Formatting, aside from the bibliography style entry, doesn’t matter.
