As you have noticed, your textbook only covers a handful of minority
groups who suffer from oppression, stereotypes and/or discrimination.

For your term paper, you will select and research a minority group that
is NOT represented in your textbook and you will write a six page paper
as if it were included as part of a Chapter in our textbook.

You may choose from the list below or you may select a minority group
that is not on the list and not in the textbook. Only select ONE
minority group when completing this paper. .

health related illnesses)

Your paper will be comprised and include the following information:

Part I: (two pages)

1. Historical background on your minority group. Origins, cultures,
values, traditions of your minority group.

2. Examine the creation of institutionalized inequality for your group
selected and the development of cultural belief systems that attempted
to justify and rationalize discrimination, oppression, and/or stereotypes.

3. What prejudice and discrimination does your minority group face?

Part II: (two pages)

1. Does class and social class standing play a role in your minority
groups oppression/discrimination/stereotypes?

2. Which social institutions (Government, Education, Religion, Family)
affect your minority groups in a positive and/or negative ways?

3. How does the Media play a role in your minority group?

Part III: (two pages)

1. What progress has your minority group had? Success stories?

2. Given the information and ideas presented in your paper, speculate
the future of your minority group. What are the prospects for achieving
equality?

Your Works Cited page must be in MLA to receive full credit. (this will
be your 7th page)

You must include at least three outside sources (journal article, media
clip, etc..) when completing your assignment. Be sure to include direct
references and quotations throughout your paper from your sources to
receive full credit. More detail of your paper will be provided later
this semester.
