Crime deterrent measures can be implemented proactively before any occurrence. For instance, strategies adopted prior to or in anticipation of a felony could be referred to as primary deterrence, while measures advanced after the occurrence are known as secondary measures. According to Bunei and Barasa (2017) secondary measures are security approaches that are implemented to thwart any form of repeat. Crime reduction approaches in a rural setting are geared towards lessening the prospects for crime to happen by enhancing the risk to persons intending to execute the crime. However, situational crime deterrent concept is constructed around this principle, thus offenders evaluate the risk that turns out to motivate their decision to go for a particular target. Essentially, the central goal of crime deterrence is make the cost of crime higher than the benefits by curtailing ease of access, visibility and lure of crime targets while bolstering guardianship through enhanced visibility.
