Potential Predictors of Victimisation
Potential Predictors of Victimisation of farm crime
The prevalence of crime has contributed to the role of criminology in relation to farm crime, particularly the Rational Choice Theory (Cornish and Clarke 2017); Crime Opportunity Theory (Land 2018); and Routine Activity Theory (Felson 2017). Essentially, the element of informal protection is more recognised in prevention of farm crime, with Routine Activity Theory demonstrating that routine farming activities can enhance the rate of victimization. According to Felson (2017) Routine Activity Theory postulated that crime increased by an offender, a target and lack of informal or formal protection, the level of crime is much higher by these aspects that generate a multiplier effect (Barclay 2016).
