According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) (2018), cancer is a major public health issue globally. As of 2018, there were 1, 735, 350 new cases of cancer that led to the death of 609, 640 Americans (NCI, 2018). Furthermore, the incidence of various cancers between 2011 and 2015 was 439.2 per 100,000 persons. However, mortality rates are high in male than females at 196.8 and 139.6 respectively per 100,000 individuals (NCI, 2018). In relation to race, cancer is high in African American male and least in Asian/Pacific Islander women. The purpose of this assignment is to provide a discussion of cancer and approach to care using the nursing process.
