According to the book, Cultivation Theory is “…a grand theory that assumes media have far-reaching and pervasive effects (pg. 198). This is absolutely true in whatever it is that you decided to immerse yourself in. I personally like to keep what I immerse myself in via the media funny and light. I like Pinterest and crafts and funny animal photos on Facebook. I feel more calm and happy when I see these vs other things. When I see my world I see thing I can send to others that are funny and light hearted or I see things I can craft with. My computer learns the thing I like and shows me mainly these things.

If I were however to be a constant news watcher and not care about crafting and art, I would see different things in the world around me. I would maybe see people that looked like that killer last night on the news. Or maybe I would feel differently towards a restaurant that I typically love that was reported to be awful on the news. Based on the media I choose to see and become involved in, I am seeing my world differently. One last example is when I took a rock n roll history class. I fell in love and likes a lot of rock n roll pages on Facebook and I listened to stations that played rock music. Slowly the commercials I heard were rock centered and I felt differently about the world around me. It is interesting that by the images we see, our reality changes. It can be very direct, but in my own personal life, it is the small behaviors that it changes in me that lead to a larger mind shift.
