Essay Prompt: Pick 1 aspect of our shared human experience Meaning, Morality, Suffering, Freedom, or Identity. Imagine then that you have friend who is a secular humanist. You and your friend both encounter these same phenomena in ordinary everyday life. You and your friend strike up a conversation one day in which you reflect on one of these shared experiences. Since your friend is a secular humanist, s/he has differing plausibility structures concerning the nature of reality than you do. The task for this essay is to first put yourself in the shoes of your secular humanist friend (think the Inside/Out approach). How might your friend account for one of these experiences given their social imaginary, or their on things? You will want to show (if possible) where you can agree with them in their beliefs but at the same time demonstrate the areas in which their assumptions will have difficulty offering a fullerĀ explanation of the topic you have chosen. Then, you will need to offer an account of how Christianity better explains the topic and how it provides a fuller, more robust narrative about reality. While you are developing this apologetic, keep in mind the material you have learned throughout the course, especially as it relates to the contestability of belief in a pluralistic society. Does living in the Secular Age impact how we approach apologetics and if so, how might we craft our narratives? Given what the authors have discussed concerning the contestability of belief, how should we go about discussing Christianity with someone?

This is the prompt you will need to keep in mind as you work through the various phases of the Essay. For Phase 1 you will need to select 1 of these 5 provided topics that you intend to write on and also provide a bibliography of a minimum 10 credible (scholarly) outside sources. Choose sources that are relevant to the topic at hand.

A few notes:
1. The sources you choose do not necessarily need to be the exact 10 you use for the paper; however, keep in mind two things: first, you will be graded on the relevance of these sources and two, by the end of Week 4 you will need to have the sources pretty much solidified as you will be writing annotations for the 10 selected.
2. Go to the bibliography section of each of your textbooks (or any chapters that discuss your topic) and use that to help you begin your research
3. Liberty’s library has many online books and databases you can use from home. The sources are out there and you can find them but it does take some work and time. If you need help researching through the Library, you can contact them and someone can help you.
