1. Are there any changes that they would want to make to their mission statement? -Take out retailing -Bold Promise: HEB Partners taking a stand together to build the greatest retailing company.
2. How does HEB keep a balance between in house supplier vs the vendors they use? -review amount of disco’d items by HEB and Manufacturered brands to ensure we have an optimal level of private and public label. -Review the competition variety and ensure we are maintaining a competitive advantage with own brand items while still being instock of manufactured items. Merchandise what we want to sell, but carry what the customer wants to buy.
3. What are some goals they want to reach now as a company? -E-commerce-Setup infrastructure to become better with online orders. -Customer Service-Ownership in our Partners for the jobs they perform on a daily basis. -Curbside-Pickup service for busy households with no time to shop.
4. What makes HEB better than other markets out there (Walmart, Target, Wholefoods) Private Label HEB, HCF, Central Market Brands. -Unique Items such as distinctive primo picks -customer service and available help on sales floor
5. Is Wholefoods their biggest competitor and how do they keep the advantage on them? Wal-Mart Whole Foods is biggest competitor for Central Market is our brand of stores to target the uber up customers.
6. Who are our most intense competitors? Less intense? -Walmart – Price; -Target – General Merchandise/Quality; -Whole Foods-Organics and up customers; -Aldi – Value Customers and price -Amazon-E-commerce competition -Kroger-Core Grocery Shop
7. What are the alternative channels of distribution? How are they changing? -e-commerce -ship to home -instacart -curbside
8. What are the trends in the market? -more online purchases by millennial population growth. -Decreasing baby boomer population that shops to cook from scratch – less sales in made from home meals (Seasoning, flour, etc.)
9. Which advantage do you see as the strongest? -private label distinctive items we manufacture-high quality at low price -partners for customer service and ownership -partner stock plan to build ownership at all levels in organization -price index better than all competitors
10. Does the perspective of the community on HEB greatly impact the business in relation to other grocery retailers? -ABSOLUTELY!!! 2008 Hurricane example caleb can speak to. first retailer to open in Beaumont after hurricane. -Operation Appreciation for veterans and current military -March of Dimes -Kids Day -9/11 support fire fighters with breakfast lunch for them. all stores participate
11. How does HEB sustain its advantages? Great People (I will be covering Great People in my portion of the essay and will elaborate.)
