A thoughtful practice can be a critical element in practice-oriented professional learning settings where individuals learn from specialized experiences, as opposed to learning from recognized knowledge or information diffusion where individuals learn from their own professional experiences as opposed to formal informational transfer.
In healthcare for instance, reflection has been illustrated as the active process of appraising and evaluating experiences, drawing on methodical theories or former learning experiences in bid to inform future actions. An effective thoughtful practitioner continually ponder on experiences and has the capability of reviewing in action, constantly, learning from previous and current experiences to the advantage of future actions.
Reflection may be an imperative source of individual professional growth and improvement (Diefenbach, 2007). It is nonetheless critical to bring together principle as well as practice, because reflection enables an individual to perceive and label types of thought and principle within the framework of his or her work. An individual who ponders throughout his or her practice is not simply looking back on previous experiences, but having a conscious view at emotions, experiences, course of action and feedbacks while using this information to augment to their existing body of knowledge and attain a higher echelon of comprehension.
