MIS 589 Week 3 Discussion Question 1: Network and Transport Layer
The Internet is a network of networks. Explain the role of the network layer and Internet protocol (IP) in order to make internetworking possible.
The IP (Internet Protocol) is a protocol that utilises datagrams to enhance communication over a packet-switched framework. The IP protocol works at the system layer protocol of the OSI reference display and is also a segment of a suite of protocols referred to as TCP/IP.
At the present, the internet has been able to connect people with more than 2 billion connections. Despite the fact that the Internet keeps on working and has the capacity to satisfy end users, it also suffers from comparative ossification, a condition where mechanical advancement meets regular bottlenecks, as exemplified by the present absence of wide arrangement of innovations, for example, multicast or Internet Protocol variant 6 (IPv6).

Computer dynamics is a microcomputer software development company that has a 300 computer network. The company is located in three adjacent five story buildings in an office park with about 100 computers in each building. The LANs in each building are similar, but one building has the data center in the second floor. There are no other office locations. Please refer to the network architecture components in Figure 61 of the textbook, and identify the key network architecture components in the design of the enterprise network. Refer to Chapter 6 and discuss how you would go about designing the physical network. You may assume that the campus does not need WAN connectivity.
