The transition from one cluster of dominant information technologies to another is always ethically argumentative. Socrates for instance lived during a transition from a hugely oral tradition to a newer information technology that comprise of jotting down words and compiling write-ups into scrolls and books. Notably, Socrates was opposed to writing, although Plato his student did write most of his lectures. Previously, books were held in libraries, which acted as a control (Singer 302). Nevertheless, with the decentralized information structures, the issue of privacy is pertinent. In this case, if privacy is anything to go by, there is need to manage those that have access to personal details (Kaplan 149).

On the other hand, corporate organizations such as Google and Facebook have been reluctant to ensure the privacy of individual information because of the colossal monetary value attached to it. The confidentiality of data is a critical moral aspect that affects the communication and access of user data. But when third-party entities are given control over individual information in exchange for services offered, these organizations have the obligation to limit access that may turn out to be disastrous (Kaplan 153). Data landing in wrong can enhance identity theft, a move that can hamper people and organizations at large. And yet, the complexity to acquiring complete digital security lays in the fact that security refutes the moral thought of sharing and openness that informed the frontiers of information technology.
