Assignment Overview
As stated in Unit 5, the goal of a literature review is to present an exhaustive analysis of current literature related to your research topic. It should be organized into themes and should summarize, interpret, and evaluate current literature. Due to time constraints, this literature review will not be exhaustive, but should be a complete preliminary literature review. You want your reader to be convinced that your proposal must be approved and your study implemented.
Assignment Instructions
Develop a thematic literature review for your proposed topic by completing the following steps:
Develop three to five major themes (topics) relevant to your topic/problem. Begin each theme with a description of the theme and its connection to the proposed study’s problem/topic.
Within each theme, organize, present, and evaluate (critically analyze) the relevant research.
Develop summary paragraphs for each theme that:
Synthesize the literature.
Draw conclusions.
Emphasize the supportive relationship between the theme and your proposed study.
Explain how the theme helped to lay the foundation for the study, or how the theme elucidated the research problem, and/or how the theme helps justify the need for the proposed study.
Analyze current literature and research connected to your proposed research topic.
Remember that, although this literature review does not have to be exhaustive, it should be complete; present multiple sides or points of view of any topic or theme if there are multiple sides in current literature.
When analyzing, present a judgment regarding accuracy, credibility, meaningfulness, validity, and efficacy for generalizations (for quantitative research). If the literature is available, always show both sides of an issue, problem, model, et cetera.
After this analysis, relate your proposed research topic to the existing literature and themes present in your literature review.

Discuss gaps, debates, or controversies related to the theoretical/conceptual framework and related research findings.
Evaluate other viable research designs and analyzes. Then explain why your choice of research design is appropriate.
It is essential when explaining your choice of research design that you evaluate other research designs from previous studies as a means of proving the validity of your selection.
Conclude this section with a brief summary paragraph that synthesizes the themes and emphasizes how the review of critical literature supports your proposed study. This should justify and strengthen your arguments for the conducting the study.
